For the Love of Giraffe

Giraffe are in trouble. Two types, the Kordofan and Nubian giraffe have been listed as endangered. One subspecies, the reticulated giraffe, is also endangered. Two species are improving in number, and the rest are declining.

Why are giraffes disappearing? Loss of habitat due to human population growth, degradation of the giraffe's habitats, and poaching are some of the causes of the giraffe's disappearance. Some giraffe are killed for their meat or for their tails for dowry by locals.

Conservationists are trying to help giraffe, but they have so much work to do. They need to start from the beginning to have a comprehensive conservation plan. The GCF and other organizations and governments have been busy trying to save giraffe. They have moved giraffe to areas where they can grow their numbers and ensure they are not located in one location. They are also placing trackers on giraffe to research where they travel and live.

Each of us can help giraffe. Here are some ideas to help: (1) Support zoos that support giraffe conservation, or other organizations that support giraffe conservation for captive giraffe. (2) Donate to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation . They are an organization dedicated to helping giraffe. You can donate money, adopt a giraffe, or buy from their store. If you shop on amazon.com, shop through smile.amazon.com and support the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. You can raise money through your amazon shopping.

For the Love of Giraffes

I am often asked, wouldn’t it be better if the giraffe ran free rather than live in zoos. Yes, in a perfect world, we would not need zoos or safari parks. However, we do not live in a perfect world. Poaching, illegal hunting, and habitat destruction are all caused by mankind.

Humans are responsible for the decline in numbers of giraffe and other animals. I want future generations to be able to see animals in the wild. We can help giraffe by supporting giraffe organizations that will work with the various countries. Zoos and safari parks often have programs that help save wild giraffe and they often send personnel to support efforts of moving giraffe to an area where they can thrive, or do studies that are needed to save giraffe. Zoos have programs to educate children and adults. Some giraffe sub-species have numbers that classify them as vulnerable or near extinction. We must act now.
